Art Therapy for Broads Abroad : Writing on Leaves: Exercise #4

::I remember a lot of dreams. Sometimes they are hard to distinguish from what has really happened. That is not so terrible. It is the same with books.::
 - Per Petterson, In the Wake

In dreams, you have an opportunity to conceive new waking approaches to life complexities.  You can jump from the highest point, safely landing on a mattress that magically pops up from a river bottom to soften your landing.  In dreams, you see yourself as perfect, foolish, clever, aggressive, or free.  You can fly across a dance floor, search the back walls of a dimly lite cave for primitive paintings, and ride a cloud like a magic carpet across a new landscape.  In dreams, you can find the missing room, visit childhood, and answer complex questions about physics.  In dreams, you are courageous in your slaying of dragons, and mystical in your appreciation of simple beauty.  In dreams, you have an opportunity to put words in anothers' mouth, creating a new paradigm to view your relationships anew.

Writing on Leaves © News From A Broad, 2012

Materials:
  • 12 good size dried leaves from any tree available, or dried rose petals
  • a thin point Sharpie
  • 12 power words (see below)
  • a strong breeze
  • a beautiful park, pond, river or lake
Process:
  • Take a few moments to write out one of your dreams.  Follow the script at this link if you need some assistance.
  • From your dream notes, select the 12 most powerful words.
  • With a Sharpie, write these power words, one for each leaf or rose petal.
Options:
When your words have settled in your heart, do one of the following:
  • On a breezy day, allow the leaves to fly into the wind.
  • Toss your words into a fountain, like you would a coin.
  • Hand stitch them in a long chain, tie the string to any source that allows the leaves or petals to move.
  • Bring them to a river or pond, place them on the water, and watch them float away to their next life.
Conclusions:
  • What words would you change?
  • What do you hope your words will do for anyone that finds them?
Create the life you want!
